Want to finally understand what all those financial terms mean and how to use them to change your life? Here’s the ultimate glossary that will guide you step by step.

When I first started learning about personal finance in 1994, I was in Elmira Correctional Facility (in upstate New York) serving a sentence of 25 years to life!

I felt overwhelmed by the jargon—terms like “assets,” “liabilities,” and “interest rates” didn’t make any sense to me. I thought to myself, "How can I ever get ahead if I don’t even understand what these terms mean?"

That’s when I realized something important: knowledge is power.

I needed to learn the language of money to build a foundation for my financial success.

I began reading every book I could get my hands on that had anything to do with personal finance and entrepreneurship.

One after another, I devoured these books, magazines, and newsletters. I reread some, took notes from others, and purchased still others to add to my personal library.

In these publications, I saw a way out of a life of crime, and a way out of the projects.

I envisioned a life without having to look over my shoulders for police, a life filled with dream homes, dream cars, and dream vacations with my family.

In short, I made it my mission to break down complex personal finance terms into simple, easy-to-understand definitions—and I’ve done that for you in the SSI Method Glossary.
